Road to Status Celebrates their Launch and Speaks with Founders of WHISK Chicago
In honor of our official launch, Road to Status celebrated with FWD.us and others at WHISK Chicago earlier this month. We also awarded Founders/Chefs Ricky and David Rodriguez with the first-annual Road to Status Immigrant Entrepreneur Award for all of the amazing work they have done building their booming local business, but also for their community.
The Rodriguez Brothers started their careers at the age of 15. Rick worked his way onto and then up the kitchen line, beginning as a dishwasher and busboy and recently departing as executive chef from Logan Square’s Rocking Horse. David’s career followed a similar path, as he started out as a part-time dishwasher. These brothers have overcome many obstacles in their lives to become extremely successful chefs and restaurant owners, which is why Road to Status was honored to present them with this award. “What motivates me is the struggle,” says Chef/Co-Founder of WHISK Chicago David Rodriguez.
“When I was standing in line waiting to apply for DACA, there were so many other ethnicities there. It was amazing,” says Chef/Co-Founder of WHISK Chicago Ricky Rodriguez.
